Tough Mugs and Deadly Dames: Noir City Returns to the Castro

January 08, 2018

Film Noir aficionados, rejoice – the 16th edition of Noir City will resume its rightful place at the Castro Theater from January 26th-February 4th. Over 24 classic noirs made between 1941–1953 will be shown in their original “A” and “B” double bills. Moviegoers can experience these films in time-honored 35 mm – just as they were shown to their original audiences at the time of their release. The highlight of the program will be the newly-restored “The Man Who Cheated Himself.” Shot in San Francisco in 1950, this film starring Lee J. Cobb and Jane Wyatt will have its world premier, or re-premier here at the Castro.

“The Man Who Cheated Himself” will be double-billed with “Roadblock.” Other double featured films include “I Wake Up Screaming,” with “Among the Living,” “This Gun for Hire,” with “Quiet Please, Murder,” “Shadow of a Doubt,” with “Address Unknown,” “The Blue Dahlia,” with “Night Editor,” and “The Unsuspected” with “High Tide.” Various authors and Noir City e-magazine contributors will be on hand for autographs and signed book copies.
