A Guide To The Best Of San Francisco

April Features the Cherry Blossoms of Japantown

April 02, 2018

The delicate fragrance of cherry blossoms mingled with the tantalizing aroma of teriyaki, traditional Japanese music and dance, and a grand parade, along with many other events and experiences, all await you at the San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown. Immerse yourself in Japanese culture as you join hundreds of thousands of visitors during the weekends of April 14-15 and April 21-22 to celebrate one of the largest cherry blossom festivals in the country.

Enjoy fascinating Taiko Drum performances, witness the time-honored tradition of the Tea Ceremony, various martial arts exhibits, the annual Queen Program, and don’t miss a performance of Minyo, a traditional Japanese folk song and dance that has been passed down from one generation to the next. The younger attendees will have fun at the Sanrio Kids Corner, a craft and game area just for kids, such as sand painting, and the Hello Kitty Spin and Win. Japantown also has some great shopping – just check out the Japan Center Mall for everything Japanese from books and art, clothing and food. For details about the festival, click here.
