A Guide To The Best Of San Francisco

San Francisco Movie Theaters: Five of the Best

February 06, 2018

It’s so easy these days to stream or play movies in the comfort of our homes. We like to select a film or pop in a Blu-Ray, and watch in comfort and privacy. However, while streaming and discs are convenient, this is often a “trade-off” for sound and picture quality. Some of the best movies were filmed with the intention of being shown on large screens, but, unfortunately, many of the country’s great old movie houses have gone the way of the drive-in theater. Luckily, San Francisco still offers some pretty impressive movie venues.

First, don’t miss a visit to the Castro Theater. It’s one of the most beautiful theaters in the country, and, in addition to their film lineups, also hosts some of the world’s most prestigious film festivals. Next, check out the screen quality, seating, and programming choices at the Landmark Theaters. Also, art-house flicks and blockbusters are shown at the Sundance Kabuki in Japantown. For cult classics and hard-to-find releases, The Roxie and The Little Roxie are the places to go. So, next time you’re in the mood for the “movie theater experience,” visit one of these great venues.
