A Guide To The Best Of San Francisco

Architecture and the City

September 03, 2018

A month-long treat for architects and architecture lovers, the 15th Annual Architecture & the City will be ongoing from September 1-30 at various venues throughout the Bay Area. The Festival is sponsored by AIA San Francisco and the Center for Architecture & Design and is one of the country’s largest and longest-running festivals of its kind. Over 30 fun and inspirational programs will be provided, including design lectures, film screenings, and home tours to provide individuals and communities to experience architecture in a variety of ways. This year’s theme is “Future City,” and features equitable neighborhood designs, driverless vehicles, and more visionary projects, along with droll artwork by Bay Area artist Nigel Sussman.

Additional activities of interest this month include the Annual Peak2Peak Walk, an exploration of San Francisco’s hidden paths and stairways on September 8. Also, Chinatown is the setting for the Autumn Moon Festival on September 15-16, with dragon and lion dances, moon cakes, a lantern village, and more. And, it may be a little early for traditional Oktoberfesters, but Pier 28 will host Oktoberfest by the Bay on September 21-23, with German food and beer, and loads of singing and dancing.
